Medical Education Mission Photos

How well we prepare our students for their future residency is an important indicator of the success of our program. Many UF medical graduates become chief residents and are recognized in residency programs throughout the state and the country.

The Medical Education Mission at the University of Florida

The modern health-care delivery system is complex and changing rapidly, and the UF College of Medicine continues to respond to changes in society, health care, medical sciences and educational modalities to provide our students with the knowledge and skills necessary for the physician of today and tomorrow.

Our mission to help you be the best physician you can be begins during your first days of medical school. The broad-based curriculum emphasizes active learning in small groups, facilitating the development of a strong background in the basic sciences as well as introduction and integration into clinical medicine. The application of the science you learn to clinical experiences is part of the daily educational experience.

"Whether it’s through teaching the concepts of teamwork and leadership in clinical settings, providing ample opportunities for research leading to a career in academic medicine or utilizing the most advanced simulation technology, the UF College of Medicine is a leader in training future clinicians and scientists."

As part of a large, diverse university and academic health science center, the College of Medicine is home to many leading basic and clinical scientists. This means our students have a chance to work on world-class biomedical research projects during their medical school training.

Your patient-care skills will be honed through the College of Medicine’s clinical program, characterized by early exposure to a large and diverse patient population served at our health-care systems in Gainesville and Jacksonville, the Malcom Randall Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and several community health-care sites in Florida. These patient-care experiences in urban, rural and suburban settings highlight the diversity of our state and nation, familiarizing students with a variety of clinical presentations. Students who are interested in community outreach as well as international service will find a number of opportunities for hands-on medical experience in hospitals and clinics in developing countries and in Florida. Student-run free clinics and international medical outreach trips organized by UF medical students are enduring traditions at the College of Medicine.
